Central Park Conservancy
The Central Park Conservancy is restoring and rebuilding portions of Central Park to create healthier and more sustainable landscapes while preserving the original vision of the park. Pine & Swallow is working with the Conservancy on the redesign and redevelopment of the Harlem Meer area. The project includes replacement of the Lasker Rink and Pool with a new facility that will greatly reduce the impervious area, returning much of the existing site to park land, and includes daylighting a culverted stream to create 500 feet of new stream. This, in turn, requires modification of the surrounding landscape and topography to accommodate the required grades of the new stream. The site will have several different landscape types, from marsh and stream to steep slopes and a large green roof. Pine & Swallow is providing the Central Park Conservancy with strategies for the reuse of existing soils, subsurface drainage evaluations, planting soils specifications, design plans review, and will also provide construction phase consulting services.
